Don Metsker Obituary, Resident Of Owaneco, Died At 83
Don Metsker Obituary, Death- At 9:28 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Don E. Metsker, who resided in Owaneco and was 89 years old, passed away. He was the son of Wayne I. Metsker and Edna V. (Morgan) Metsker and was born on October 1st, 1933 in the city of Pana.
He wed Margaret Ann Singler on March 10, 1957, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis; she passed away on December 21, 2015, having predeceased him. During the Korean War, Don was an operating engineer for the United States Army, where he served his country well. Don had spent his entire life farming in the Owaneco area, and he was quite proud of the Centennial Farm he had built. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for the past 55 years. In addition, he was a member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church, the Ansar Shrine, and the Ag Corps.
Don led an eventful life; among other things, he was a private pilot, loved to dance, and traveled frequently. He was pleased that his family’s history included participation in rodeos for three generations in a row. Nancy Handegan (Gerald) of Taylorville, Deborah Jo Metsker-Boydstun (John) of Berwick, Catherine Metsker of Carlock, Dennis Metsker (Christine) of Taylorville, Janice Metsker-Galarza (Jorge) of Los Fresnos, TX, and Timothy Metsker (Kimberly) of Owaneco are among those who carry on his legacy. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nathan Hand His parents, his wife, and his brother, Robert Metsker, passed away before him.
He did not outlive any of them. On Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., Davis Memorial Christian Church will be the location of Don’s funeral service, which will be officiated by Pastor Dennis Metsker. On Thursday, visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by Masonic rites at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Burial will take place in the Buckeye Cemetery, which is located in the rural area of Owaneco. Donations in memory of Davis Memorial Christian Church can be accepted there.
