Gregory Mapes Obituary, Death – Gregory Lavern Mapes, 65, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly on August 26th, 2023. He was born on September 15th, 1957, to Lavern Mapes and the late Beverly (Church) Mapes. Greg was a native of Midland, where he was raised and graduated from Dow High School in 1975. For the past forty-eight years, he dedicated his life to the electrical trade, becoming a master electrician. Beyond his profession, Greg had a deep appreciation for life’s pleasures.

He relished spending time on the lake, enjoying the thrill of four-wheeling and jet skiing. His enthusiasm extended to large bonfires and classic cars, which brought him immense joy. Greg is survived by his daughter, Kelsey Wagner, and his father, Lavern Mapes. He is also fondly remembered by his siblings: Eugene (Sharon), Jeff (Kelly), Sarah, and Aaron (Betty), as well as close friends Matt, Charlie, Tim, John, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Mapes. A memorial service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on September 2nd, 2023, at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, with Pastor Melvin Hunt officiating. Prior to the service, friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
