Helen Isabelle Obituary, Death – Cambridge’s Helen Isabelle (Morton) Starr, age 90, passed away at Countryview Assisted Living on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Helen Morton, the daughter of the late John and Martha Ann (Campbell) Morton, was born on May 4, 1933, in Londonderry, Ohio.
In 1951, Helen earned her diploma from Madison High. She put in almost 25 years as a teacher and telecom worker for General Telephone.

Joseph Lee Starr, whom she married on May 13, 1942 and who passed away on May 13, 2002; her parents; five brothers; Duane, Herman, Hobart, Ralph, and John Morton; her sister Dorothy Thomas; her son William Ralph Starr; and her granddaughter Samantha Kaye Cassler; all before her in death. Helen leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends in the form of son Joseph Lee (Cinda) Starr of Cambridge, daughter Sharon Kaye (Bill) Cassler of Cambridge, daughter-in-law Lori Starr of Cambridge, grandchildren D.J. (Jessie) Cassler, Leslie (Michael Reid), Maggie (Corey) Smith, and Annie (Travis Bess) Starr.

Helen had a deep affection for the Lord and for her church family. She attended the Methodist Church of Cambridge Christ Global. She was the youth leader, taught Sunday school, was the financial secretary, was on the hospitality committee, and sang in the chorus at Christ Church. She was well-known for her delicious bread, nut rolls, and Buckeyes, all of which she baked from scratch. Helen enjoyed her 30 years as a cook for the Cambridge City Schools and felt that she made a difference in the lives of the youngsters she served. She also helped out with Meals on Wheels as a volunteer.

She spent a lot of time rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. She held her family and church friends in the highest regard. On Monday, September 11, 2023, from 11 AM to 1 PM, there will be a viewing at the Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge, and the funeral service will follow shortly afterward. Sturman Moore and Wilbur Bragg, two pastors, will preside over the ceremony. Old Washington Cemetery will serve as the last resting place.
