John Higgs Obituary, Death – John Wayne Higgs, an elderly resident of Hughesville, Maryland, passed away on July 14, 2023. He was 83 years old. Wayne Arthur Higgs was born to John Arthur Higgs and Martha Rebecca (Russell) Higgs on November 14, 1939, in Washington, DC. He went to school at St. Francis Xavier and Archbishop Carroll. Before attending The Corcoran School of the Arts & Design in Washington, D.C., Wayne served his country for four years as a machinist aboard various ships in the United States Navy.

He first laid eyes on his future wife, Ann Marie (Yanniello), in elementary school in 1953; they wed on March 9, 1961. Ann passed away in 2011, although she and Wayne were married for fifty years during which time they had six children and eleven grandchildren. Wayne highly valued his relationships with his loved ones. Whether it was portraiture, landscapes, or candid events, Wayne was a talented photographer. Photography was a hobby that Wayne enjoyed as a way to document his life and the world around him. Wayne was an accomplished professional photographer whose work appeared in periodicals, newspapers, magazines, and books including the Washington Star and the Maryland Independent.

Throughout his working life and when he retired, he made money off of his paintings and photography. Sailing, kayaking, tracking ships, taking cruises, exploring national and state parks, hiking, biking, learning about nature, going on outdoor adventures, and flying drones were just a few of Wayne’s lifetime passions. Wayne’s siblings David (wife Wanda), Stephen (wife Connie), Tim (wife Jennifer), Kathleen Hillebrand (husband Theodore), and Jack (wife Rebecca) all predeceased him, as did his parents Arthur and Martha and his brother Michael (wife Dannye). Wayne’s eleven grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Nicholas, Emily, Victoria, Olivia, Isabella, Jacob, Aidan, Lucy, and Sylvia, as well as his children Suzanne Yarbrough (John), Joseph (Gina), John, Jr., Denise Bridges (Scott), Mark (Kimberly), and Vincent (Novella), survive him.

At Brinsfield Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622, on August 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wayne’s loved ones and friends will gather to celebrate his life and share their condolences. Masks are required at all funeral services per the family’s wish. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, Maryland 20617, will have a Mass the following day, August 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM. The burial at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery will be a private ceremony.
