Larry Newcomb Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the age of 58, Larry “Newk” Keith Newcomb of Minden, Nebraska passed away in the Kearney Regional Medical Center. On Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., the Reverend Peter Choi will preside over funeral services at Minden United Methodist Church.
The church’s Facebook and YouTube channels will broadcast the service live. Following the service, interment will take place at Upland Cemetery. On Sunday, August 27, 2023, the doors of Craig Funeral Home in Minden will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. for a time of visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Larry’s name to a charity of the family’s choosing. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is handling the arrangements.
Larry Newcomb’s parents Robert and Arlene (Gramm) Newcomb welcomed him into the world on October 30, 1964 in Cambridge, Nebraska. He received his education in Bartley, Nebraska. He completed high school in 1983. After finishing high school, he went on to complete his teacher education at Kearney State University after first attending McCook Community College and Chadron State University. On July 25, 1992, in Minden, Nebraska, Larry wed Shari Bunger. McCook, Nebraska was the location of the couple’s initial residence.
At Republican Valley High School, Larry was both an industrial arts teacher and the boys’ basketball coach. After a brief stint in the classroom, Larry found work as a construction worker for Wardcraft Homes in Minden, Nebraska. Larry and Shari moved to Brush, Colorado so that Larry could work at the Wardcraft Homes office there. After dropping off Wardcraft, the pair headed back to Minden. He belonged to the Minden Men’s Bowling League, the Minden Country Club, the Minden Eagles, and the Minden United Methodist Church.
Larry has a gentle, accepting nature. His genuine, friendly grin won the hearts of everyone he met. He looked forward to his time at the lake cabin and enjoyed playing golf and bowling with his close buddies. He and Shari had fun going to rock concerts and visiting new places with their pals. They also attended the sporting events and other gatherings of their many nieces and nephews, who were always grateful for their presence. Larry’s wife of 31 years, Shari of Minden, his mother, Arlene of Bartley, his mother-in-law, Vivian Bunger of Minden, and his brothers, Doug Newcomb of Stratton, Gary Newcomb of Bartley, and Craig Newcomb and his wife, Trista, of Bertrand, will carry on the celebration of his life. Andy Bunger, my brother-in-law, and his wife Shannon, who live in McCook.
Logan and Macie Bunger of Minden, Alec and Haiden Loop of Omaha, Nebraska, Kyle and Hayley Newcomb of McCook, and Dawson Newcomb of Bertrand, Nebraska, are four of Logan’s nephews. Kari and Tim Vacek of Lincoln, and Kayla and Scott Smalley of McCook, are two sets of nieces. Tricia, Teddy, Molly, and Luke Vacek of Lincoln; Hailey, Hayden, and Casen Smalley of McCook; and Casen Newcomb of McCook make up the seven great nieces and nephews. Countless cousins and dear friends, including one aunt named Edna Warren from Kanorado, Kansas. Robert “Bartley Bob” Newcomb, Larry’s father, Don Bunger, his in-laws’ father and mother, Edward and Grace Newcomb, and William and Martha Gramm, his grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins all predeceased Larry.
