Marv Wegner Obituary, Death – The Norton Shores community is united in grief as we remember the life and legacy of Marvin Harold Wegner, a dedicated servant of both his community and his family. Marvin, aged 70, passed away on August 24, 2023, in Muskegon, MI, leaving behind a profound impact that will be felt for generations to come.
Born on December 6, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Harold and Wilma Wegner, Marvin’s life journey was one of service, love, and commitment. He embarked on a path of education, graduating from North Muskegon High School in 1971 and furthering his studies at Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University. On June 29, 1973, he married his beloved Janet Aubil, and together they celebrated an impressive 50 years of partnership.
Marvin’s heart was one dedicated to the service of others. With over 30 years in law enforcement, he devoted 22 of those years to the citizens of the City of North Muskegon, 15 of which he served as Police Chief. His commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of his community was unwavering.
Beyond his professional life, Marvin’s passion extended to youth sports. For over two decades, he coached baseball, softball, and football with the North Muskegon Youth Sports Club, leaving an indelible mark on countless young lives. His coaching went beyond athletics, instilling values and life lessons that went far beyond the playing field. He served as President of the club and dedicated countless hours to its success.
Marvin’s dedication also extended to Norseman athletics, where he volunteered his time to maintain fields, operate time clocks, and support the programs. Family was at the heart of all he did, and he never missed a chance to watch his children and grandchildren in their sporting events.
A man of deep faith, Marvin was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, Janet; children, Dan (Kelli) Wegner and Amanda Cihak; grandchildren, Khi Wegner, Kayla Cihak, and Cameron Cihak; as well as his brothers, Dennis (Joann) Wegner, Wes (Denice) Wegner, and Vern (Tina) Wegner. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Marvin’s life will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Laketon Bethel Church. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, along with memorial contributions directed towards Laketon Bethel Church or the North Muskegon Athletic Boosters.
