Matthew Mecchia Obituary, Death – Mecca Mecchia, Matthew, peacefully departed from this world on Friday, June 24, 2016, at the age of 74, surrounded by his devoted family in the comfort of his home. For more than five decades, he stood as the unwavering spouse, best friend, and soulmate of Margaret, a match crafted in the heavens that gifted them with countless cherished memories.
He leaves behind a profound absence deeply felt by his children, including Gav and Leesa, Bren and Joyce, Russ and Ed (Edwyna), and Kel (Luv), who regarded him not only as their father but also as their dearest friend and mentor. To us, you were our “Tane Mahuta,” symbolizing strength, inspiration, and unwavering guidance.
Lucian, Shalom, Jade, Cairo, Nico, Georgia, Luca, N’dea, Mitchell, Milan, Claudia, Nick, Dan, Keeg, Gemma, Matthew, Simone, and Bianca all have had the privilege of calling you the world’s greatest grandad. He was the beloved son of Aldo (Jim Sr.) and Edna Mecchia, who had departed before him, and he held a special place as a cherished brother to Pat, Bill, Nina, and Elda. Karina, Nicky, Ange, and Nathan have relied on him as a dear and trusted friend.
As it is written, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13) A Requiem Mass to honor Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 11:00 am, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Rifle Range Road, Hamilton. Following the Mass, refreshments will be served, featuring pies and cream doughnuts. Jim’s final resting place will be in the Olive Lawn section of the Hamilton Park Cemetery, Morrinsville Road, Newstead, Hamilton.
