Nicholas Gentile Obituary, Death –  It is with profound sorrow that the members and officials of the Cardington Stonehurst Fire Company convey the heartbreaking news of the passing of Chief Engineer and esteemed Life Member, Nicholas “Big Nick” Gentile.

Nick was an esteemed member of the Cardington Stonehurst Fire Company for a span of 28 years, during which he held various roles such as Firefighter, Assistant Engineer, and ultimately Chief Engineer. He was also dedicated to his responsibilities as a Board of Director for numerous years.

In April of 1995, Nick joined the Cardington Stonehurst Fire Company, where he swiftly developed a deep affinity for the Fire Service. His contributions were pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of the company’s apparatus on a daily basis.

Despite his unwavering commitment to his community and fellow members, Nick’s devotion to his family remained unparalleled. His love for his wife Mary and daughter Mary (Bompadre), who serves as Vice President of the Cardington Stonehurst Fire Company, was immeasurable.

Nick was an enthusiastic supporter of Mary’s accomplishments within and outside the Fire Service, including her advancement to the position of Lieutenant for Cardington and her pursuit of a nursing career. He was equally proud of his son-in-law Anthony Bompadre’s journey from Upper Darby’s volunteer firefighters to the Philadelphia Fire Department, where he rapidly ascended the ranks.

Following his retirement from the Upper Darby Township Parks Department, Nick relished his days engaged in his true passion: quality time with his family. The moments spent with his four granddaughters, particularly at the pool, held a special place in his heart.

Nick’s absence will be deeply felt by numerous individuals who cherished him. The community is invited to pay their respects at the following events:
