Norma Ritter Obituary, Resident Of Guilderland, New York Passed Away

Norma Ritter Obituary, Death – On September 1, 2023, the world lost a remarkable woman as Norma Marian Ritter, age 78, of Guilderland, New York, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 9, 1945, in Matlock, England, to Victor Woolf and Minnie Eglash Woolf, Norma’s life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to others.

Growing up in the East End of London, England, Norma had a deep connection to her Jewish heritage. After completing her education, she spent a transformative year living on an Israeli kibbutz. This experience fueled her passion for working with children, a calling that would define her career.

Norma’s dedication to education and her love for children shone through in her roles as a Youth Counselor, Hebrew School Teacher, and Youth Group Advisor. However, her true calling emerged in her advocacy for mothers and infants. She was instrumental in creating a successful breastfeeding education program for Chemung County (NY) Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which was subsequently adopted statewide.

At the age of 50, Norma embarked on a new career as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She was a founding member of Breastfeeding USA and authored their training manual for Counselors. Throughout her life, Norma empowered countless mothers to embrace successful breastfeeding journeys.

Norma is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Glenn Ritter, and their three children: Dan (Elizabeth Lear) with their children Zachariah Elijah and Ephraim Avdan; Abigail (Joe Otter) with their children Jonah Avigdor, Rachel Lucia, and Isaac Naftali; and Chana Maya (Jeff Shein) with their children Chava Rachel, Ami Yehuda, Kayla, and Ethan.

Norma’s final resting place will be at Congregation Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Schenectady, New York, at 1:00 pm on September 5, 2023. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to mothers and children will forever be remembered and cherished by those whose lives she touched.
