Paul Chesnut Obituary, Death – Paul R. “Chip” Chesnut, son of Dr. Paul Foster Chesnut and Anjean Nazette Chesnut, was born July 10, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa and died Monday, August 21, 2023 at the age of 78 at his home in Osceola, Iowa. Paul attended Winterset High School and graduated with the class of 1963. He went on to study social work and psychology at Buena Vista University. Paul began his career in the fire service there.

While attending college at Buena Vista, he worked as a fireman at Storm Lake, driving the gear truck to any calls and providing medic response and CPR as needed. He was drafted shortly after graduating from Buena Vista and served his country during the Vietnam War, where he served two tours of service. When he returned home from the army, he returned to Iowa and married Roberta Jean “Jeanne” Hughes Chesnut on December 27, 1970 in Neligh, Nebraska, and they had four children. After their marriage, Paul chose to return to school, and he earned his teaching degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, in 1972.

Following his stint at Iowa State, Paul and Jeanne relocated to Osceola, where he taught for nearly thirty years at Clarke’s North Elementary, Weldon, and East Elementary. For many years, he also ran R & S snow removal. He had been a member of the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department since 1972, serving in a variety of capacities over the years. at many years, Paul was a fire instructor at the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau, where he educated hundreds of firefighters during the summer and winter months at various fire courses. He also belonged to the Osceola Gun Club and the MIFWIC hunting organization.

His father, Paul Foster Chesnut, mother, Anjean Chesnut, son, Paul Mark Chesnut, son, Douglas Larsen Chesnut, father-in-law, Doug Hughes, sister, Sally Chesnut Oldham, aunt, Catherine DeCook, uncle, Richard Nazette, nephew, Ronnie Nazette, and brother-in-law, Mark Hughes preceded Paul in death.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Jeanne Chesnut of Osceola, son, Jack (Kylene) Chesnut of Osceola, son, Joe (Brittany) Chesnut of Chariton, grandchildren, Kenley, Bennett, and Camille Chesnut of Osceola; mother-in-law, Marcella Hughes of Neligh, NE; brother in law, David Oldham of Winterset; niece, Courtney (Rob) Rose of Urbandale; nephew, Zachary Oldham of Boise, ID as well as other relatives and many many friends.

Amy Johnson and Pastor Chuck DeVos will officiate at the services, which will be conducted at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Kale Funeral Home.
