Raeleen Geeslin Obituary, Death –Raeleen M. Geeslin, affectionately known as “Recon Rae,” passed away suddenly on August 31, 2023, at her home in South Philadelphia. Born on October 22, 1956, to Raymone and Eileen (nee: Heath) Broderick, she was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia and a true patriot.
Raeleen proudly served in the United States Army, with deployments to Honduras, Italy, France, and Bosnia. Her dedication to her country was unwavering, and she retired from military service in 1997. Following her retirement, she joined the Merchant Marines and later retired from the Military Sealift Command, continuing her service to her beloved nation.
Raeleen was not only a dedicated soldier but also the life of the party, a loving mother, and a cherished nanny to her family. Known for her straightforward nature and honesty, she had a reputation for calling things as she saw them. She is survived by her son, Shane Geeslin, Sr., and daughter-in-law Mary Joy.
Raeleen was a beloved nanny to her grandson, Shane Jr. She was also a sister to Kathleen (Ronald) Lawson and Sean (Evone) Broderick, but sadly, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Thistlewood. To remember and celebrate Raeleen’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, late afternoon, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, located at 3rd & Wolf Sts. Funeral Home Religious Services will follow at 5:30 pm, with Military Honors to pay tribute to her dedicated service to her country.
Raeleen M. Geeslin’s memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her, both for her unwavering commitment to her country and her love and dedication to her family. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
