Scott Toland Obituary, Death –Scott David Toland, a resident of Wisconsin Rapids, peacefully passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on August 30, 2023, at the age of 64. Born on February 6, 1959, in Duluth, Minnesota, Scott was the son of Clarence and Pearl Toland, nee Beck.

He spent his formative years in Duluth, attending local schools and ultimately graduating from Central High School in Duluth in 1977. Immediately after completing his high school education, Scott embarked on his career journey, entering the workforce with unwavering determination.

He was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, establishing and successfully running his towing company, Scotty’s Towing. This endeavor spanned an impressive 37 years, operating in both Duluth and Superior, Wisconsin. Later in life, he transitioned to driving a dump truck for Fleet Transportation in Wisconsin Rapids, finding joy in his work.

Beyond his professional life, Scott was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Deborah Thomas, with whom he celebrated 22 years of marital bliss. He was a loving father and eventually became a cherished grandfather. Scott had a warm and expressive personality, always making sure those around him felt cared for.

He had a knack for bringing people together and was like the “mayor” of his neighborhood, frequently hosting neighborhood gatherings. He was renowned for his specialty, the King of Bloody Marys, and enjoyed relaxing by the campfire, indulging in scratch-offs and pull tabs, and demonstrating a keen eye for spotting deals and turning them into profits. Scott was also an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for the Minnesota Wild hockey team, and he enjoyed the game of golf.

Above all, Scott was known for his kind-heartedness and willingness to assist others. He often provided car troubleshooting advice over the phone, earning him a reputation as a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Scott leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Deborah; his son, Christopher (Jamey) Toland; his daughters, Andrea, Melissa, and Hannah Toland; his step-sons, Jeffrey (Denise) Ditman and Ryan (Amanda Farris) Ditman; his grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, and Lavee; and his step-grandchildren, Tyson, Jonathan, and Dominick.

Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Richard Toland; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Chris), David (Sharon), Dean (Stephanie), and Darrin (Brenda) Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Pearl Toland; his brothers, Tommy and Gary Toland; his sisters-in-law, Pat, Sandra, and Nancy Toland; and his parents-in-law, Aaron and Dorothy Thomas.

The family of Scott Toland extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital CICU, including the nursing and support teams, as well as Dr. John Johnkoski and Dr. Thomas Howard. They also extend their appreciation to Mary Nelson and Scott’s wonderful neighbors for their loving support during this challenging time.

A funeral service to honor Scott’s memory will be held in Duluth, Minnesota, at a later date, yet to be determined.
