Vincent Rappoccio, 19-year-old arrested for driving 115 mph on I-84 – On Friday, a 19-year-old was taken into custody for driving 115 miles per hour on eastbound Interstate 84. At approximately 8:10 p.m., state troopers in Vernon reported seeing a red Audi A7 doing 115 miles per hour near Exit 66. The posted speed restriction was strictly enforced throughout the area by state police officers.

After passing the law enforcement officers, the driver stepped up his speed. Troopers communicated with other units in the area via radio and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Exit 68 in Tolland. According to the state police, the driver was able to avoid capture by weaving across oncoming traffic and driving onto the shoulder.

Troopers put an end to their attempts to halt the vehicle because of the risk the vehicle posed to the general public, according to a statement released by state police. One hour later, state police located the vehicle and its driver on the campus of the University of Connecticut at Storrs. The driver was apprehended, and his vehicle was towed away from the scene. Vincent Rappoccio, who resides in Southington, was named as the driver by the police.

He was granted bail in the amount of $10,000 and is scheduled to make an appearance in court on September 19 in Rockville.
