Walter Champagne Obituary, Death- The death of Walter “Jimmy” Champagne, who resided in Pearl River, Louisiana, took place on Monday, August 28, 2023, when he was 85 years old.
On December 4th, 1937, he arrived into this world in New Orleans, Louisiana. 1955 was the year that Jimmy received his diploma from Holy Cross High School. Jimmy met the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Lynn Ripoll Champagne, while he was a student at Holy Cross, and the two went on to become high school sweethearts. They tied the knot in 1957 and remained married for a total of 65 years, during which time they produced a great number of beloved memories.
Jimmy went to Louisiana State University and was incredibly proud of the fact that he resided in Tiger Stadium while he was there. He also was extremely proud of the fact that he played football for LSU. He served his country honorably in the Air Force Reserves of the United States. Following thirty fruitful years of employment as a Wharfman at Mobile Oil in Chalmette, Louisiana, Jimmy finally took the opportunity to retire.
He was a skilled and accomplished woodworker as well as a golfer who played the game frequently. He was a Professional World Champion Decoy Duck Carver, and his stunning carvings won him a number of medals over his career. Jimmy was a unique individual who was never at a loss for words and was known for being the “life of the party.” Everyone who ever met him came to adore him, and his absence will be keenly felt across the board.
Jimmy Champagne was a devoted father to his children, Jody Champagne Randle (whom the late Larry Randle married) and Randy J. Champagne (whom Ellen Champagne married). Jimmy cherished all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including his granddaughter Britni Lynn Champagne (who had passed away), his daughter Mollie Randle, and his son Tyler J. Champagne. He also cherished his great-grandchildren Bailey, Boston, Ava, Kaylen, and Sydney.
He was a loving brother to Gayle Champagne Hunter, brother-in-law to Al Hunter, and sister-in-law to Sandy Ripoll Trosclair. Al Hunter and Sandy Ripoll Trosclair were his in-laws. In addition to these, he leaves behind a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and valued friends. His mother, Marjorie Landry Champagne Champagne, and his father, Percy P. Champagne, passed away before Jimmy was born.
