Walter Peabody Obituary, Walter Peabody Has Died Unexpectedly

Walter Peabody Obituary, Death – On August 18, 2023, the world lost a beloved soul as Walter James “Wally” Peabody, age 84, peacefully passed away lakeside with his loving wife Janice (Porter) by his side. Born on August 11, 1939, in Lewiston, Maine, Wally was the son of Ralph and Maxine (Thornton) Peabody.

Wally’s journey began with a young love story, marrying Janice in 1959. Their 64-year union was a testament to a love that stood the test of time. Starting their life in Houlton, Maine, Wally’s career in banking took him from First National Bank to Vice President of Bangor Savings Bank. However, his dedication to family led him to President of Peabody Equipment Company, a path he embraced until his retirement at 48.

A man of diverse passions, Wally found solace in the outdoors—whether it was golfing, hunting, or fishing. His love for the great outdoors was inherited by his son and grandchildren, who looked up to him as a mentor and guide. His riverside camp in Oxbow became a sacred space where he imparted his wisdom and knowledge, leaving an indelible legacy.

Wally and Janice’s winters in Florida, alongside their life in Maine, offered cherished memories for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. His generous heart extended to all who knew him, radiating warmth and love through his electric smile.

As we mourn his passing, we remember Wally’s immense impact on his family and friends. His big heart and unwavering love remain etched in our hearts and memories. A Celebration of Wally’s life will be held on August 25, 2023, at the Shiretown Inn & Suites UPOVER in Houlton. Though he may have left this world, Wally’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the lessons he shared.

In the words of John O’Donoghue, “Life is like a river, sometimes it sweeps you gently along, and sometimes the rapids come out of nowhere.” Wally navigated life’s currents with grace, leaving ripples of love and wisdom that will continue to inspire us all. Our condolences go out to his wife, Janice, his children, Leslie and Todd, his grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to have known this remarkable man.
